Jacob G. Lynch was born near Nashville, Washington County, Illinois,
September 4, 1842, where he was educated at the Nashville Seminary, mostly by
his own exertions, his father having died when he was three years old, his
mother when he was ten, and his grandfather, with whom he then went to live,
when he was fifteen. At the age of eighteen, he removed to Cairo, and was
immediately appointed Deputy County Clerk. At twenty-three he was elected County
Clerk, which office he still holds. Mr. Lynch, meantime, studied law, but
regarding office and real estate business as more profitable, has followed the
latter. The firm of Lynch & Howley is one of the chief real estate firms in
Southern Illinois.
